Posted by Kent Beatty | Posted in Misc, Tweets | Posted on 31-08-2009

In the early morning hours of August 27th, 2009, John Mayer (@johncmayer) took to twitter to reveal his “criminal” past and challenge famous investigative celebrity reporter Harry Levin (@HarveyLevinTMZ – editor at TMZ.com) to produce John’s mug shot.

Within 14 hours Harry produced the mug shot from when John Mayer was arrested in Atlanta on May 26, 2001 for driving with a suspended license:

Behind the scenes filming at a Social Media Addicts Association meeting, with members discussing the problems caused by their addiction in graphic detail. Be warned -…

The epidemic is spreading rapidly with every age group.  Grandparents on Facebook, 12 year olds on twitter, those hopelessly stuck in MySpace and the ever increasing senior population on social media.  @jerrysmaa founded the Social Media Addicts Association in the spring of 2009 to help people beat their addiction to social networking sites and reclaim their lives!

This house in the city of Austell, Georgia, is tweeting to find a new owner.  It seems to be lonely since it’s current owner decamped for Charlotte, N.C.

@PrinceSammie one person that lived here: Buccaneers fan. His wife: Carolina Panthers fan. Talk about #Drama

A DJ’s Last Tweet

DJ_AM-Adam Goldstein- Last Tweet 290825

Adam_Goldstein_001_161008 Adam Goldstein’s final tweet was a poetic note:  a lyric from a Grandmaster Flash song.  This may have been his last message to the outside world.

According to the New York Times, Adam, 36, was found dead Friday, August 28th, 2009 with a crack pipe and prescription drugs several days after his last communication with friends – emergency workers broke down the door after friends tried for days to reach him.  Friends said that he was having trouble coping with pain & stress from the plane crash he survived last year – several of his friends didn’t survive.

Many celebrities are using twitter as their broadcasting tool of choice.  Was this tweet a cry for help, a last cryptic message or simply tweeting lyrics?  (His twitter account was verified)Our condolences to his family.

Get Twitter Bios at a Glance

Posted by David Druckenmiller | Posted in Tools, Twitter | Posted on 28-08-2009

I guess real “expert” or “power” Twitter-ers enjoy and use some sort of desktop client like Tweetdeck, Nambu, or Seesmic to manage their Twitter account. But for me, I seem to have reverted back to the standard Twitter browser interface … with one caveat, I use Firefox … primarily for one very convenient script (or add-on by Al’s Scripts) that turns your following-follower page listings from this:

script_safari

into this:

script_firefox

If your tweets contain such sayings as “Get more followers, instantly!” or “Find targeted followers in seconds” or “affiliate schemes” then this feature may not be critical :) … BUT if you are using Twitter for quality and not quantity then having follower-following bio’s listed in this manner is a tremendous help in separating the good from the bad on your account, or identifying a friend of interest on another user’s account.

(I’m in the MAC world so perhaps my PC brethren could chime in, but I am pretty sure the steps below are the same for PC’s as well.)

Step 1 – Install the free download of FireFox.

Step 2 – After the installation is complete, launch. Now download and install Greasmonkey.

If you are unfamiliar with Firefox add-ons then you might like this wiki article about Greasemonkey which is in essentially a JavaScript enabler for the FireFox browser.

Step 3 – Restart FireFox. Now download and install at Al’s scripts the script “Twitter Friend Bios at a Glance”. The explanations for install are pretty clear … really just hit the green install button and follow the prompts.

Step 4 – Now, go to your Twitter follower or following page and separate the wheat from the chaff.

Twitter – “What’s all the fuss about?”

This “Twitter – What’s all the fuss about” post written by Beth Frysztak (@bethfrysztak) was originally published at Beth’s Blog:  Network Your Life, in April 2009.  Beth is a cool twitterer, charasmatic leader, successful marketer & Mom of 2 who thoroughly understands how to satisfy customers.  She is passionate about networking and “all things connected”.

Twitter, is a micro-blogging service. It allows you to send short, 140 character “tweets” rather than typing an entire blog (as I am right now), You can “tweet” anything from getting coffee…to the days headline news. When Twitter was launched, I am sure there were only a handful of people who all followed each other! That soon became a hundred….then thousands. In fact, in the early stages of Twitter (in my humble opinion) the entire Twitter following was probably no more than the number of followers that I have today! (1,685 as of this afternoon (April 18, 2009) – in case you were wondering).

So, “What’s all the fuss about?”

What I receive out of Twitter-and my Twitter followers (whom I just adore!) is an unexplainable pleasure of “tweeting” the news of the day, a business article I have found, “re-tweeting” a fantastic quote or link and sharing stories of my life. Sometimes, my “tweets” are notions of nothing really important.

Twedding: Will Twitter become the next Vegas?

Posted by Jessica Linnell | Posted in Trends | Posted on 25-08-2009

In times where money is tight and Twitter is booming, Twitter might just find itself the next big locale for elopers, er, online elopers that is. Think about the cost and time savings couples who choose a twedding could enjoy. No booking a flight to Vegas or even driving to a chapel. No tux rentals or overpriced wear-once dresses. No stress choosing music or flower decor. No long winded vows (remember you only have 140 characters). The savings are endless!

Of course, there would be some drawbacks to a twedding. How would the couple exchange rings? What about the ever-important first kiss? Would you tweet your vows from the same location or would you be tweeting from a distance? Many couples look forward to sharing wedding pics with family and friends but tweddings wouldn’t have pictures, or would they? Would you take a picture of you and your spouse-to-be tweeting each other? Would screen shots serve to commemorate the occasion?

Perhaps the most important question of all is will people WANT to get married on Twitter? Will people be willing to trade traditional weddings for an online, 140-character “I do”? While this possibility leaves more questions than it answers, chances are it will take place sooner or later–and probably sooner.

Those willing give tweddings a try need look no further than Michael Buchino, AKA @buchino. This online (of course) ordained pastor posted a Craig’s List ad offering to conduct Twitter marriage ceremonies. According to an article by Scott Kleinberg, he’s already found one couple interested in a twedding. He’s still working out the state laws regarding such a ceremony but be sure to stay posted for the first twedding soon. And if you’re interested in a twedding, contact Buchino on Twitter.

3 Ways to Put Twitter on Autopilot

2

Posted by Brandon Eley | Posted in Tools, Twitter | Posted on 25-08-2009

There are only so many hours in the day… and all of us (well, except for maybe Chris Brogan) have other commitments outside of social media. Wouldn’t it be great if you could just put Twitter on autopilot? You can, but first…

Remember, Twitter is about having conversations and building relationships. The more you automate, the less you converse. Use these tools as a way to spark and enhance conversations, not as a way to step back from Twitter completely. Okay, now on to the tools.

Schedule Tweets for a Later Time

Using TweetLater you can schedule individual tweets to be posted at a later time. You can choose either a specific time (i.e. October 13, at 12:40 PM) or a certain interval from now (i.e. 3 hours from now).

TweetLater

TweetLater also has a paid version (starting at $29.97/month) that allows you to setup recurring tweets. The web service also has other features to help you manage your Twitter stream such as automatically following people who follow you (or unfollowing people who unfollow you), and can manage an unlimited number of accounts.

Let me come clean about my Twitter adoption “arc:”

The wise student hears of the Twitter & practices it diligently. The average student hears of the Twitter & gives it thought now & again. The foolish student hears of the Twitter and laughs aloud. If there were no laughter, the Twitter would not be what it is. -Lao Tzu (well, sorta)

I was foolish. If you think Twitter’s the dumbest thing you’ve ever seen, I hear you.

But I evolved.
